Build your own dream box game console with SteamOS

With the flood of of Steam Boxes being introduced at this year’s CES, both casual and hardcore gamers will have their pick of the litter to choose from. But those with maxed out hardware or those who just don’t want to shell out for the Linux system in a pretty case can build their very own Steam Machine using the beta build of Steam OS. Here are some quick instructions on how to set up your very own Steam Box, absolutely free, provided you’ve already got the parts

What you will need

  • The following hardware specs:
    • Processor: Intel or AMD 64-bit capable processor
    • Memory: 4GB or more RAM
    • Hard Drive: 500GB or larger disk
    • Video Card: NVIDIA graphics card (Sorry, AMD and Intel graphics folks)
    • Extra: UEFI boot support*.
  • 4GB or larger USB stick
  • A wired Internet connection with Ethernet out
  • A working PC to format the USB
  • An alcoholic beverage of choice (optional)
  • Plenty of patience.
